Puerto Rican Afro-descendant Woman Adolfina Villanueva Osorio

Puerto Rican Afro-descendant Woman Adolfina Villanueva Osorio

Adolfina Villanueva Osorio was a black woman from Loíza who fought, until her death, for decent and affordable housing for her family. On the morning of February 6, 1980, Lieutenant Víctor Estrella murdered Villanueva Osorio and her husband for refusing to leave their house after the police arrived with an eviction order and machines to tear down their home. She is remembered as a struggling black woman murdered by systematic racism.

The martyrs of our social/colonial wars must never be forgotten in these troubled times. Adolfina Villanueva Osorio was one of them.

The Puerto Rico police murdered her in front of her children while defending her right to the plot of land where she lived facing the sea. She was thirty-four years old (34).
